The Way of Truth

Robert Pitman

What does it really mean to know who we are?

At the heart of this message is a deeply personal question: Do we truly believe that we are loved by God, not because of what we do, but simply because we are His?

In Matthew 4, Jesus enters the wilderness, and the first thing the enemy attacks isn’t His strength or His mission—it’s His identity. Before Jesus ever preached a sermon or performed a miracle, the Father had already declared, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

Then the enemy whispers, “Prove it.”

Isn’t that the same battle we face? We can spend so much of our lives trying to prove that we are enough through what we accomplish, how people see us, or how well we perform.

But God invites us into something better: a life rooted in grace, where we stop striving to earn His love and begin living from the love we already have.

John 17 reminds us of something almost too beautiful to comprehend: God loves us as He loves His Son.

When that truth moves from our head into our heart, everything begins to change. We see ourselves differently. We stop trying to prove our worth. And when we know we are deeply loved, we become free to love others with that same compassion, grace, and mercy.
